Block Five: The Beach Bag
Everyone loves Vacation Time! Pat Sloan is going to give us a guided tour to some inspired blocks this year based on this wonderful theme, and the fifth block is The Beach Bag! So grab your sunscreen, your shades, and your best beach towel and picture yourself loading it all into a beach bag like the one that inspired this block!  We invite you to join us as we take a look at the great block design, Pat's inspiration for it, and her video description for this month. But first, feel free to download the pattern and if you missed it, the materials list:

Pat Sloan on Block Five
Thank you for joining me and making my Free Mystery quilt, Vacation Time! May brings in block 5 to the mystery that I've called 'Beach Bag'.

About now many of us are looking forward to a summer vacation, maybe to the beach, the mountains, the lake, or just heading to the local pool! Vacation starts for me by pulling out my Beach Bag and filling it with Vacation things! Books, quilty hand work, magazines (quilting of course!), a pair of sunglasses and some yummy snacks complete my bag and make me feel like Vacation has started!

I am using the same fabrics for both the Aqua and Navy on my quilts.

In the pattern I've included two mock ups of how the block looks in a 3 x 3 block setting and larger 6 x 6 block setting. It's a really fun block to repeat for a full quilt and I can see it done scrappy!

Inspiration from Memorable Beach Bags

When I was very small, I would visit my great grandparents and great Aunt June for a week each summer. I was the center of attention that week! We did all kinds of vacation time activities and one in particular inspired this block.

Aunt June lived in Pennsylvania just a few hours from the New Jersey shore. One morning she woke me up and said it's time to go to the beach! She pulled out this big beach bag and started filling it up. We had drinks, and we had snacks! We had beach towels and we had sunscreen. Then she added the magic by including a sand pail and shovel! I was SO excited to get to the beach to play!

We jumped into her powder blue convertible and drove to the shore with our Beach Bag overflowing!

When I was on my last vacation I spotted this sign in a store, Fill Me with FUN, that is PERFECT for this month! We fill our Beach Bags with FUN! And let me introduce you to the Captain of the Allure of the Seas, which is the biggest cruise ship in the world. Captain Johnny Faevelen and his pet parrot!

What do you put in your vacation bag that makes you feel it's time to head out? Let me know in the comments!
