Quilt Pattern Designer: Rebecca Morganson

Rebecca Morganson was raised in the country west of Payson, Utah. She remembers visiting her grandparents and watching her mother and grandmother quilt for hours. It was Rebecca's job to keep the needles threaded as she played beneath the quilts tacked on frames of wood.

In 2001 Rebecca and her husband Kelly, expanded the offerings of their custom frame shop to include quilting fabrics and supplies. Rebecca realized her love for design as she began creating displays and samples for the shop.

Rebecca and Kelly are the proud parents of five children, all of which spend time helping at the shop.

What got you started quilting?

Rebecca:

My grandmother was a prolific quilter. My mother also made quilts. I guess it was kind of in my blood. I became serious about quilting when we decided to add fabric to our small custom picture framing business. (I didn’t know what we were in for when we made that decision.)

FreeQuiltPatterns:

What is your favorite pattern that you have designed?

Rebecca:

That’s tough. Creating quilts is kind of like giving birth. They are both a labor of love. The quilts, like my children, each take on their own personalities and quirks - I can’t pick a favorite.

FreeQuiltPatterns:

What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t quilting?

Rebecca:

When am I not quilting? It seems like that is what I do. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my family.

What is your favorite quilt related memory?

Rebecca:

When my sister-in-law was diagnosed with cancer, my children and husband and I all worked together to make her a comfort quilt. Everyone in the family helped in the cutting, piecing and even the quilting. It was simply pieced with beautiful fabrics. My sister-in-law commented that it was comforting to have a thing of beauty to wrap up in as she faced her battle. That’s what quilts do - comfort and spread love.

Tell us a little about your family.

Rebecca:

I am happily married to my husband of 21 years. We have 5 wonderful children ranging in age from 11 to 19. We love living in rural Utah where there is plenty of space and fresh air with family nearby.
