Baby Blanket by Dana Willard

Have you ever felt something so amazingly soft that your skin very nearly went on strike, saying "Nope, I'm staying right here, forever.  Snuggling this blanket is my new life."?  This cute baby blanket by Dana Willard looks that soft.  We love the prospect of creating a blanket like this, and we don't mind all the cutting it will take to get there!  More from Dana:

"Creating a faux chenille blanket tutorials wasn’t really on my to-do list. But then so many of you asked for it…how could I not?? I’ve been sewing these for about 5 years and have shared the directions (cryptically) with a few friends through email over the years. So I’m glad that it’s all written down in a step-by-step process now."

FREE Tutorial - Pocket Pals Pillow
by Nicole Daksiewicz

- Click Image to Enlarge -
Everything is Awesome about this pillow!  (See what we did there?  Here's a hint...)  Give a precious little one you know the ability to sleep with their favorite tiny Lego people (or whatever!) with this fun project.  Nicole Daksiewicz of Modern Handcraft took some wonderful photos for the tutorial she created for The Sewing Rabbit and wrote out the steps for you very nicely as well.  Have fun with this one!  More from Nicole:

"The pocket pals pillow is the cutest decorative pillow for kids I have seen in forever. Kids will love having a place to store their Legos, Polly Pockets, Lala Loopsies, and other small toys – to keep near and dear to them while they sleep. And for once, you won’t need to worry about stepping on them in the middle of the night – its a win / win! Making the pocket pal pillow a great gift for every child, and parent alike :).

FREE Tutorial - Cabana Modern
One Block Quilt by Natalia and Kathleen

- Click Image to Enlarge -
Today's project is especially cool: not only will Natalia Bonner and Kathleen Whiting of PIece N Quilt guide you through the mysteries and wonder of creating Natalia's favorite modern one block quilt, but they also offer a video tutorial on template piecing!  If you are familiar with the quality of this dynamic duo's projects, this tutorial will not disappoint you.  More from Natalia:

"Cabana is the seventh quilt in our book, Modern One-Block Quilts. When Kathleen and I originally made the Cabana quilt we made it in more of a tan color-way. I liked that version, I did some pretty cool custom machine quilting, and the photographers over at C&T did a great job photographing it. The quilt was literally inspired by Cabanas. I kinda love the beach."

What's cooler than a hexagonal table runner made with some of your cutest fabrics?  A hexagonal table runner with 'windows', obviously!  This project by Anjeanette Klinder can add some honeycomb-shaped style to one of your tables or would be an excellent gift!  More from Anjeanette:

"My LQS is a gorgeous shop that puts together the most fun (but a bit traditional) bundles. I was on the lookout for something happy and spring-y. This bundle of 30’s inspired prints just made my heart skip a beat.

"When I was putting these together, I started thinking about leaving a hole in the middle of the flowers. I thought it would be lovely to see the wood grain of my entertainment cabinet through the holes in each flower."

FREE Tutorial - Log Cabin Block
by Lish Dorset

- Click Image to Enlarge -
Looking for an easy and fun project that will focus on a core set of colors you love?  This project was a result of the DIY Network's Blog Cabin 2014, and features the colors of Florida.  It was designed by Lish Dorset for the getaway, and her tutorial is great for any level of quilter.  More from Lish:

"I first started quilting a few years back thanks to hours spent reading quilting blogs and drooling over the finished results — I wanted to make those beautiful, modern-looking quilts, too! I took a class at my local fabric shop to learn the basics, but it was learning how to make log cabin blocks on my own that really took my quilting to the next skill and confidence levels.

"This technique is great for using up fabric scraps and making you feel more proficient when it comes to piecing. Best of all, they come together pretty quickly. Try my approach to making a log cabin block on your own with this tutorial. Click in the corner of any how-to image to flow through the instructions in a photo gallery."

FREE Tutorial - Grandmother's Fan Quilt
by Amy of Seven Stitches

- Click Image to Enlarge -
What a beautiful quilt! We love the charming, art-deco feel of this quilt, and Amy of Seven Stitches has put together an excellent tutorial demonstrating how to create it.  The tutorial is mainly about the block itself, but the quilt pictured here should be relatively easy to complete once you've mastered the block.  More from Amy:

"The following tutorial looks at how to make a Grandmother’s Fan quilt block. This is a traditional block that was very popular in the 1930’s and reflects the sunburst motifs of Art Deco. It is much like a Dresden Plate block but allows for a little more tolerance as it is only a quarter circle. This tutorial includes making the templates for a 10" finished block. The applique is done with vliesofix and machine top stitching."

FREE Tutorial - How to Make a
Sewing Machine Cover by Simple Simon

- Click Image to Enlarge -
If you've never made your own sewing machine cover, this tutorial is a great place to start.  After all, your machine works hard, it deserves a new set of duds!  Follow along in this step by step tutorial by guest-writer Simple Simon for Somewhat Simple.  More from Simon:

"A sewing machine cover has been on my to-do list for quite some time now and since I’ve been working on re-doing my sewing space I thought it was prime time to finally make one. It was surprising easy. Here’s how I did it.

"I should have made one of these forever ago. (I like it much better than the cheesy plasticky cover my machine came with.) So go and cover those naked machines of yours. Winter is coming. Don’t leave them out in the cold! It will only take a few minutes and you’ll be glad you did it when you're done."

FREE Tutorial - Mini Marilyn Baby Quilt
by Michelle Marr

- Click Image to Enlarge -
Is there anything more adorable than a mini quilt?  How about a mini baby quilt?  Michelle Marr of Michelle's Romantic Tangle created this tiny wonder as a scaled down version of her Marilyn baby quilt, and she fell absolutely in love.  More from Michelle:

"Yesterday, I thought I was in love with this little quilt. Now that I've got it quilted, it's a case of full blown quilt lust.

"In case you didn't read the last post, this is a scaled down version of Marilyn with the color placement in the nine-patch blocks reversed. The blocks are 1 1/2" and the quilt itself finishes at about 7" square. I could have, by the absolute skin of my teeth, used the same fat quarter for the top and back and binding, but I decided to use a piece from a coordinating pink fat quarter. The more different pinks in my stash the better, right?"
